Today we have been introduced to the library resources and how to do research. After this presentation you will research the artwork you chose from the Powerpoint presentation last week and write three paragraphs about the work to hand in today. Try to write more than just the details of when and where the work was made, perhaps you can find some controversy or curious fact that excited you to write about!

The Mona Lisa painting is over 500 years of age. It was painted by Leonardo De Vinci in 1503, it took around four years to paint. Rumour has is that Leonardo held onto the painting for a few years once completed as it was one of his favourite pieces of artwork that he had created. To this day it is still a mystery to who the identity of this portrait belongs too.
Leonardo De Vince was born in 1452 and died in 1519. He studied painting for five years at the Painters Guild in Florence. After he completed his study he then worked for himself as a painter. During this time he painted many paintings , a few well known are 'The Last Supper', 'Portrait of Cecilia Gallerani Lady with an Ermine' and my favourite 'Mona Lisa'.
The Mona Lisa is one of the worlds most known portraits. It has been very iconic for the character and composition. It is the quirky smile and pearcing blank eyes that always connect with the viewer and draw them in. They question the viewer to think about the emotions shown in this portrait.
The composition in striking and bold. Her body facing the side with her face tilted to us. Her posture is upright with her arms crossed in a non-threatening way. I believe that it is mostly her expression that has been captured that makes this one of the most well known portraits.
